How to Create a Gmail App Password

Part 1: Create a Gmail account

Visit Gmail sign up

Go to accounts.google.com/signup.
Fill in your information
- First and last name
- The email address you want
- A strong password
Click Next.
Add recovery options
- Add a phone number and recovery email (optional, but recommended).
- Enter your birthdate and gender.
Click Next.
Agree to Google's terms

Read through the Privacy and Terms, then click I agree.

You now have a Gmail account.

App passwords only work when 2-Step Verification is turned on.

Open your Google Account security settings

Go to myaccount.google.com/security.
Find 2-Step Verification

Scroll to How you sign in to Google (on some accounts it is called Signing in to Google). Click 2-Step Verification, then Get started.
Re-enter your password
Add your phone number

Follow the on-screen steps to verify it.
Complete the setup

Choose how to receive codes (text or call), test it, and finish.

2-Step Verification is now on.

Go back to security settings

Go to myaccount.google.com/security. You can also open myaccount.google.com/apppasswords directly.
Find App passwords

It is listed under the same sign-in section as 2-Step Verification, or you can search for "App passwords" at the top of the page. If you don't see it, check that 2-Step Verification is turned on.
Create the password

Re-enter your Google password if asked. Give the app password a name you will recognize, such as NetSheet, and click Create (older screens: choose Other (Custom name) and click Generate).
Copy the password

Google shows a 16-character password. Copy it. You will use it instead of your Gmail password when connecting email in NetSheet.

Google only shows the app password once. If you need it later, save it somewhere safe or create a new one.
